About Me

Hi! My name is Zach Adams. I have been a teacher since 2014. My first two years of teaching were spent teaching kindergarten and first grade together. After that, I spent two years teaching kindergarten by itself. Currently, I am about to start my second year of being a seventh and eighth grade teacher. It has always been my dream of being a middle school teacher and now I get to do that. I am also a graduate student in the Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program at Michigan State University.

I am currently teaching at ZQuest Elementary in Zeeland, Michigan. Our school is a year long school with a balanced calendar. We teach primarily using Project Based Learning units. I have been a teacher there ever since I graduate from Hope College in 2014. I absolutely love the schedule that my school works on because it gives me more breaks throughout the year and I love using those breaks to spend time with my family.

My wife Katie and I love to travel. We have been fortunate enough to be able to visit some very historical locations in the United States, such as Charleston, South Carolina, Savanah, Georgia, Boston, Massachusetts, Martha’s Vineyard, and San Antonio, Texas. I enjoy brining in photos into my classroom to show my students all the different historical places that I have traveled to and how some of them connect to the curriculum that we will study throughout the year.

On The Move

When I am not teaching or taking graduate classes I love being able to get outside and be active. I have developed a newish passion for running this past year and running around Holland, Michigan has been incredible this summer. I was able to compete in my first triathlon this past June and I can say that I will most likely do another one in the not so distant future.

After my first triathlon. Click image to view a video of me on the bike portion of the race.

Besides running, I am a huge soccer fan! My favorite team is Manchester United and I have been lucky enough to see them play three times in the States. My wife supports me in my fandom by accompanying me to the matches and sporting one of my jerseys. My passion for soccer and teaching were able to merge when I was in the middle of my student teaching semester and I absolutely loved it. I have not been able to coach since then as I have been on a more traditional elementary schedule in the past and that makes it hard to get to practices or games. I am looking forward to getting involved with coaching again in the future.

Another passion that has developed over the years is my love for reading. I typically try to set a goal of reading at least one book a month that is not teaching or school related. I make this goal to build in time to relax and dive into my interest outside of the classroom. Some of the most impactful books that I have read in the past year have been about people who had to overcome adversity or had to rely on relationships to make progress. Below is a gallery of books that I have read this past year. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
